Asian Gilsonite is producing Gilsonite powder for using in Ink production we have special location in the middle east to supply Gilsonite powder to all clients from over the worlds we explained here completely regarding Gilsonite that is using in Ink production.
The printer ink is a combination of carbon black and bitumen, which with the help of Gilsonite, this combination becomes more sticky and its durability becomes much longer. a large amount of this precious material is used in the production of newspaper ink, which is also known as organic ink. One of the most important factors that can be used is its low degree of softness and ash below 3%. the most important thing that it does in the ink industry is to flow the material along with its stabilizer. Various types of ink can be made by combining with Gilsonite, the most famous of which are printer ink, newspaper ink, printing, lithography and offset ink, gravure, castell and flexographic ink.
Gilsonite has been used as the first wet carbon black agent for dark colors of newspaper and magazine inks. High concentrations of Gilsonite have been used in newspaper printing inks. The main use of Gilsonite is as an additive for dispersing carbon black particles, which is the dark color of printing inks. Gilsonite is normally used in dosages of 2 to 5% in various color formulas and compositions, but sometimes 10 to 20% amounts are used as a low-cost substitute for other resins in black ink formulations.
In the early 1990s, Gilsonite was used to make ER 125 resin Basically, the ER-125 resin selects the most useful aliphatic part of Gilsonite,
In the ER production plant, Gilsonite is mixed with a weak heptane solvent that is able to dissolve only the aliphatic part of Gilsonite. Then the solution is centrifuged to separate the part containing aliphatic (ER Resin) from aromatic materials and ash (called IR resin). Heptane is then evaporated from separate solutions. Light oils are removed through steam. and the freshly separated resins are each flaked on belts. ER-125 resin is sold to the printing ink industry.
ER125 resin is used in making thermal, printing and engraving inks. This material is used with minor changes for hydrocarbon resin, alkyd resin, hydrocarbon modified resin, phenolic modified oil resins, oxidized asphalt and metal resins. Its best use in carbon black powdering devices is when it takes more than half of the hydrocarbon resin and one-fourth of the alkaline resin. This material is used in gel waxes that can replace one quarter of phenolic modified hydrocarbon resin and one quarter of phenolic modified oil resins. Hydrocarbon resins, ER 125 resins (Gilsonite resins) have the ability to react with aluminum materials. In printing inks, ER125 resin is oxidized as a partial substitute for Gilsonite and asphalt. ER 125 resin has a soluble viscosity, which can be used with less Gilsonite, more resin at the same viscosity level and direction of movement. It gives the amount of resin to the printing ink with better cleanability, and also in gravure inks, ER125 resin creates carbon blackness and shows it than any other brittle material.
It has unique properties that make it valuable for various industrial applications, including the manufacturing of ink.
Why Gilsonite is Used in Ink Production:
High Carbon Content: Gilsonite has a high carbon content, which contributes to deep, rich black colors in ink formulations. This makes it an attractive additive for creating inks with strong pigmentation.
Excellent Binding Properties: Its resinous nature helps ink adhere effectively to various surfaces, improving durability and consistency in printing.
Gloss and Viscosity Control: Adding Gilsonite to ink can enhance gloss and improve the viscosity, ensuring a smooth flow and high-quality print. This is especially beneficial for inks used in high-speed printing processes.
Cost-Effectiveness: Gilsonite is relatively cost-effective compared to synthetic resins, making it a popular choice for manufacturers looking to reduce costs while maintaining quality.
Applications in Ink Types:
Printing Inks: It is commonly used in gravure and offset inks for newspapers, magazines, and packaging due to its rich color and durability.
Specialty Inks: Gilsonite can also be used in specialty inks that require specific characteristics, like high heat resistance or moisture resistance.
Processing and Formulation:
To be incorporated into ink formulations, Gilsonite must first be refined and ground into a fine powder or dissolved in suitable solvents. The resulting product can then be blended with other resins, pigments, and additives to achieve the desired properties.
